Bangladesh Institute of Glass and Ceramics was established in Bangladesh on 11th March 1951. The government of Bangladesh starts this Institute for the students of the Ceramic department. This is the old Institute of Bangladesh all kinds of Institute. In 1951, this institute’s name was “East Bengal Ceramics Institute”. But in 1961 it was renamed “The East Pakistan Institute of Glass and Ceramics. While Bangladesh won its independence in 1971, it was renamed “Bangladesh Institute of Glass and Ceramic” in 1972. And when it’s growing demand able sector of Bangladesh for manpower.
It started with 3 years diploma in ceramics technology in 1978. But now it is known as a Diploma in Engineering glass and ceramic technology. In the year 2000, it’s change as known as the Diploma in Engineering Glass and Ceramic Technology and the duration is 4 years.
The technology of glass and ceramic nickname is BIGC (Bangladesh Institute of Glass and Ceramics). Technically, it’s controlled by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB). Classes are conducted in two shifts. It is the first shift from 8:00 pm to 1.30 pm and 1.35 pm and 7.40 pm the second shift. Institute of Engineering degree students are awarded diplomas. The minimum 8th-grade students must pass the admission to vocational courses.
